Remarks

• medium sized (40-80 mm) pectinid.
• both valves very convex, covered with 16-18 ribs
• usual colours are white designs on grey, brown to black background, sometimes red, yellow or light purple. This species is also harvested by aquaculture and these specimens can be very colourfull & bright. The aquaculture is also the reason how this species now can be found from China.
• On the website "Let's talk seashells" Marlo Krisberg explained with a lot of pictures the differences between the 3 subspecies of Argopecten irradians (irradians, concentricus and amplicostatus).
